U-17 Management Team Announced/Open Day

Mervue Utd are delighted to announce the appointment of Ollie Neary and his new management team who will be guiding the club’s U-17 squad in the inaugural U-17 FAI National League.

Ollie will be assisted by coaches Coley Kelly, Dennis Mulgannon and Damien Brennan who all possess League of Ireland experience.

Ollie himself has many year’s experience both playing and coaching in League of Ireland football and only last year coached the club’s U-19 squad to win the U-19 Airtricity League Southern Section for the 2013/14 season, developing players like Ryan Manning, now with QPR, and Padraic Cunningham, now playing Premier Division football with Galway United.

Ollie also coached the club’s very first Eircom U-21 side after returning from a long league of Ireland career with Galway Utd back in 2003. That Mervue side became the first club team to reach an Irish cup final when they lost out to Longford Town in the decider of the Enda McGuill Cup. Current Sligo Rovers legend and Galway native Alan Keane featured in that side.

Mervue have been drawn in Section 2 along with Shamrock Rovers, St Patricks Athletic, Salthill Devon, Athlone Town, Longford Town and Sligo Rovers. The new national league will kick off in August with fixtures to be released next month.

Ollie and his management team will hold an open day/trials at the clubs state of the art facilities at Fahy’s Field on Saturday 20th June from 12 noon to 2 pm and all players are welcome to come along.

If you aspire to be a part of this exciting new national competition and have a desire to showcase your talents week in/week out on a national stage against sides like Shamrock Rovers, St Patricks Athletic, Longford Town, Sligo Rovers etc, then come and meet Ollie and his staff for the coming season, see the wonderful facilities available at Fahy’s Field and their plans for the campaign.
