U-16 B Team Match Reports   17/02/2015

Mervue Utd B 3-4 Oranmore B

Scorers: Jayden O’Malley, Dems Henok, Aaron Conneely

Mervue’s  16-B team lost out 4-3 to Oranmore B in a match they dominated for 60 of the 80 minutes but poor defending from set pieces saw them beaten in a seven goal thriller. Mervue totally dominated the first half with keeper Dylan Gallagher only called on to make one save. Mervue almost scored after five minutes after a great shot by Jayden O’ Malley hit the post. The home side took the lead after good work down the left from Daniel Healy, Cian Dunleavy, Daniel Corbett saw Adam Healy cross for Patrick Oyelola whose shot was brilliantly back heeled in to the bottom corner by Jayden O’ Malley. Mervue continued to pass the ball excellently out from the back and continued to make chances. Jayden O’Malley had another shot saved after more good work from Adam Healy and Daniel Corbett. They added the second after good work by Bryan Healy, Jordan Devery saw Alex Schmidt pass to Dems Henok who dribbled past three players to score a brilliant goal. Mervue with Cian Dunleavy, Dems Henok and Patrick Oyelola dominating in midfield continued to press with Dems Henok, Jayden O'Malley and Adam Healy all going close.

Mervue dropped the tempo in the second half and were pinned back by some determined Oranmore play. They conceded a soft goal after ten minutes when a missed header from a corner saw Oranmore pull a goal back. Mervue started to panic and tired. Another poor defensive effort saw Oranmore equalise from another corner after two Mervue players dived in. Oranmore quickly scored a third after Mervue gave away a soft free kick which was cleared to an unmarked Oranmore player to score a  cracker in to the top corner for 3-2. Mervue then rallied back in to the game and an Adam Healy corner saw the Oranmore keeper make a great save from a Jordan Devery header. Adam Connolly was also unlucky with a shot. An excellent short free kick between Adam Healy and Daniel Corbett saw Adam Healy beat three players and set up the over lapping Daniel Corbett to pull an excellent ball back to Aaron Conneely to finish from 10 yards for 3-3. Mervue continued to attack and in the last minute an excellent Adam Healy run beating four players saw him blatantly upended in the penalty area but no penalty was given and Oranmore booted the ball down the field and scored the winner.

Again a great first half and last 15 minute display in which Mervue dominated and passed the ball well, but unfortunately some bad defending cost us the game.

Mervue Utd B 1- 1 Knocknacarra B

Scorers: Dems Henok (Penalty)

Mervue totally dominated this game on a bumpy muddy pitch in Knocknacarra. Mervue passed the ball out from the back from the start and a great move involving Paraic Cooney, Cian Dunleavy and Alex Schmidt saw Dems Henok put Aaron Conneely through but the knocknacarra keeper produced an excellent save to  deny him. Adam Healy, and Jayden O'Malley then set up Dems Henok to volley against the crossbar. Adam Healy and Daniel Corbett both went close before half time. Mervue keeper Dylan Gallagher only had one save to make in a first half totally dominated by Mervue.

The second half was again dominated by the away side with Knocknacarra often having 10 men behind the ball. A great move involving Daniel Healy, Jordan Devery and Dems Henok saw Alex Schmidt put through a great ball for Jayden O’Malley to run through but again the Knocknacarra keeper saved. Mervue then got caught on the break leaving a one on one situation for the knocknacarra player to run through and score. Mervue continued to dominate and Patrick Oyelola set up William Ikemna-Nwosa who beat two players and hit the post with a great effort. Mervue continued to push forward with Nathan Unorka putting in two great crosses. Dems Henok then beat three players and went through to score a great goal but the referee disallowed it and gave Mervue a free on the edge of the penalty area! Mervue finally got the reward their game deserved when a great run by Bryan Healy saw him pass the ball to Mark Schmidt who brilliantly touched the ball past the defender only to be fouled in the box. Dems Henok put away the penalty to secure a draw in a match Mervue should have got full points from.
