U14's Advance in SFAI Cup   01/02/2015

Mervue Utd 2-0 St Kevins Boys (Dublin) SFAI Goodson Cup 5th Round

Mervue Utd's U-14 side advanced to round six of the SFAI Cup following a hard earned 2-0 win over Dublin Schoolboy side, St Kevins Boys, at Mervue on Saturday afternoon.

Two second half goals from the home side proved decisive after a scoreless opening half between two well matched sides.

Mervue centre half Keelan Craven put the home side in front just after the interval with a well struck free-kick for a 1-0 lead.

With the visitors pushing on in numbers in search of an equaliser the home side struck for a second with 12 minutes remaining.

Sub Michael Okaya did all the hard work down the right wing before his ball into the box eventually arrived at the feet of Colin Kelly on the edge of the box and he coolly slotted the ball past St Kevins keeper, Jack Patterson, into the bottom corner for 2-0.

Mikey Devaney almost made it 3-0 shortly afterwards but he was just off target at the back post before the visitors were awarded a penalty. Craven clipped sub Mervin Mambo as he broke into the box but midfielder Gavin Doyle saw the resultant spot kick go wide.

It was a let off for the home side and they defended well after that to see out the game and advance to the last sixteen.
