Juniors Secure Another Three Points   31/01/2014

Mervue Utd A 4-0 Tuam Celtic (Premier Division)

The club’s Junior A team recorded their seventh win in nine league games as they ran out 4-0 winners over Tuam Celtic at McDonnell Park on Thursday evening to moved nine points clear at the top of the Premier Division.

The Tuam keeper denied both Barry Moran and Alan O'Donovan with excellent early stops as the home side were once again quick out of the blocks with some good attacking play.

That positive start was soon rewarded when Dan Tuck brilliantly volleyed into the top corner from just inside the box after more pressure on the Tuam goal on 14 minutes.

The home side missed a great chance to double their lead just before half time when Barry Moran fired a penalty wide after he had been taken down in the box five minutes before the break.

A rare miss from Moran was soon forgotten when he did eventually double that lead running onto Seamie Crowe's through ball and slotting the ball past the Tuam keeper for 2-0 on 62 minutes.

Two goals in as many minutes wrapped matters up as first sub Dara Ryan made it 3-0 heading home Alan O'Donovan's corner kick on 77 minutes from close range.

Moran grabbed his second of the night on 79 minutes tapping home after the visiting keeper could only parry Tommy Walsh's shot from the edge of the box.

Walsh missed a sitter in the closing minutes to make it 5-0 while he also fired another effort wide of the mark and Ryan came close to adding his second with another effort.

Mervue Utd: B O’Donoghue, D Dowling, S Keogh (E Cullen 46), R Connolly, T Walsh; A O'Donavan, D McWalter, D Tuck, S Crowe (E Browne 77); B Moran, S Larkin (D Ryan 60).
