Juniors Comfortably Advance in Connacht Cup   27/01/2014

Mervue Utd 8-0 Swinford FC (Connacht Junior Cup Fourth Round)

The club’s Junior A team returned to winning ways as they put in an impressive performance to comfortably advance to the fifth round of the Connacht Junior Cup after a 8-0 defeat of Mayo side Swinford FC on Saturday evening.

Due to the adverse weather conditions the game was moved to the astro turf pitch at McDonnell Park and the home side were soon in front as they raced into a first minute lead.

Simon Walsh delivered a quickly won corner and his ball into the area was met by centre half Robert Connolly who headed home his first goal of the season. Barry Moran doubled that lead on 9 minutes as he struck the first of his hat-trick on the night.

Seamie Crowe added goal number three on 19 minutes before Eric Browne headed home another Simon Walsh corner ten minutes later for a 4-0 interval lead.

Barry Moran quickly notch his hat-trick as he scored twice in two minutes just after the break, with the second from the penalty spot after Darvin Dowling’s run into the box was halted by a Swinford player.

Shane Keogh’s brilliantly struck free-kick on 58 minutes added another score while sub Stephen Larkin got in on the action as he fired home the final goal of the night with just two minutes remaining.
