Mervue Utd 7-1 Brazukas (Roscommon) Connacht Junior Cup 3rd Round
The club's Junior side eventually overcame a skilful Brazukas side in the third round of the Connacht Junior Cup at a wet Fahy's Field on Sunday afternoon running out 7-1 winners in the end.
After a scoreless opening half, in which Brian Meaney came closest to breaking the deadlock when he struck the post, the home side hit seven past the visiting keeper in a dominant second half display.
After a succession of corners delivered by Seamie Crowe just after the re-start eventually Keith McHugh headed home to open the scoring on 52 minutes.
A mistake at the back on the hour mark allowed the visitors level matters but Brian Meaney struck a cracking strike past the Brazukas keeper on 75 minutes to start a flow of late goals.
Alan O'Donavan made it 3-1 before sub Barry Moran scored on the double to increase the score to 5-1.
O'Donavan struck home his second of the afternoon to make it 6-1 and Brian Meaney also added his second of the game to finish off the scoring late on.
