Under 19's Record 5-0 Win in Wexford   07/12/2013

Wexford Youths 0-5 Mervue Utd (Friday 6th December'13)

A hat-trick from top scorer Padraic Cunningham, a header from Ryan Manning and a late goal from sub John Miguel Sollier secured an excellent 5-0 away win over Wexford Youths for the club's under 19 side at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night.

In an open first half both sides had chances to open the scoring but it was the visitors who eventually broke the deadlock and never look back after that as they dominated the second period after the home side had been reduced to ten men.

Mervue hit the crossbar and missed a one on one with the home keeper before Cunningham fired home his first on 27 minutes as he finished off a good move to make it 1-0. The home side’s cause was not helped just before the break when Tony Smith received a second yellow following a foul on Aaron McDonagh, which saw Wexford forced to play the second period with ten men.

A period of pressure on the home goal eventually saw Mervue’s lead doubled as Aaron Friel’s cross picked out Ryan Manning in the box and he headed low past the home keeper on 65 minutes.

Cunningham then added his second seven minutes later after that before completing his hat-trick with the final goal of the game a minute from time as the league’s top scorer moved to 10 goals as the visitors showed how to make the extra man count.

In between Cunningham's goals sub John Miguel Sollier made it 5-0 after coming of the bench to register his second goal in two games with virtually his first touch.

The win ensures Justin Neary’s side continue to lead the way at the top of the Southern Division with 20 points and three games remaining.
