Last Minute Cup Defeat for U19's   20/11/2013

Airtricity U19 Enda McGuill Cup 2nd Round
Mervue Utd 2-3 Drogheda Utd

Drogheda Utd secured a last minute winner after the home side had led twice in the game as visitors advanced to the quarter final at a very wet Fahy's Field on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors started well and only two fine saves from Peter Healy kept them scoreless before the home side took the lead. Drogheda failed to clear the danger from a corner and the ball broke to Aaron Friel and he fired a cracking effort past keeper Jamie Douglas on 34 minutes.

Drogheda were back level within a minute as Jordan Harmon converted Fionn Reilly's left wing cross to leave it all square at the break.

Mervue took the lead again eight minutes after the break when good play from Andrew Connolly released Moise Assogba through the middle and he confidently fired past the advancing Doughlas for 2-1.

The visitors levelled matters once again on 68 minutes when Eden Burke's shot was deflected into the path of Jordan Harmon and he made no mistake firing past Peter Healy from close range for 2-2.

Drogheda's Ciaran O'Connor struck the crossbar on 84 minutes after Mervue failed to clear a corner and Paul Healy cleared another Drogheda effort off the line a minute later as the visitors put pressure on the home goal in the final 10 minutes.

With the game looking like it would need extra time to separate the sides centre half Ciaran O'Connor fired home a 90th minute winner for Drogheda as he converted unmarked at the back post following a late corner.

Drogheda now advance to an away quarter final tie with Derry City after Sunday's late win at Fahy's Field.
