U19's Defeat Longford Town   11/11/2013

Mervue Utd 3-1 Longford Town (Airtricity U19 League)

The club's Under 19's increased their lead to five points at the top of the Southern Division table following a 3-1 win over Longford Town at Fahy's Field on Sunday afternoon.

Padraig Cunningham opened the scoring just before the interval when he capitalised on some slack defending by the visitors to slot home for a 1-0 advantage. Cunningham and Dillon Murphy both had earlier good chances to open the scoring with the home side taking a deserved lead into the break.

The home side doubled their lead on 68 minutes when sub John Miguel Sollier fired past Longford keeper David McNamara after some pressure on the visitors goal.

The visitors pulled a goal back with ten minutes remaining when Darren Clarke raced through onto a ball and calmly slotted the ball past the advancing Peter Healy to make it 2-1.

The points were eventually ensured a minute into injury time when Dean Tierney was fouled in the box and Ryan Manning made no mistake sending McNamara the wrong way for 3-1.
