U19's Go Four Points Clear After Win   14/10/2013

Mervue Utd 3-1 Wexford Youths (Airtricity U19 League)

Two second half goals from Padraig Cunningham and another from Dillon Murphy saw the Under 19's come from a goal down at the break to secure a 3-1 win over Wexford Youths at Fahy's Field on Sunday afternoon.

The win sees Justin Neary's side move four points clear at the top of the Southern Division table after Limerick lost 1-0 away to Longford Town also played on Sunday afternoon.

Padraig Cunningham missed two good chances in the opening half for the home before the visitors took the lead seven minutes before the interval through Daryl Power who produced an excellent turn and finish past Peter Healy to give his side a 1-0 lead at the break.

Dillon Murphy levelled matters five minutes after the restart when he finished past Wexford keeper Danny Niekus after Aaron McDonagh had pulled a free-kick back to Eric Neary and the fullback saw his shot blocked in the box.

The home side doubled their lead on 73 minutes when Michael James played a perfect ball out to Cunningham on the left of the box and the striker dispatched a brilliant low effort into the corner past Niekus for 2-1.

In a good quality game Wexford's Daryl Power struck Peter Healy's post at the other end before Cunningham grabbed his second of the game to ensured the home win.

The striker worked hard to dispossess the Wexford centre half who delayed on the ball too much just inside his own half and Cunningham raced away with the ball and coolly slotted goal number three past Niekus with just a minute remaining.
