U16 Girls into Last Four in Connacht Cup   24/04/2013

Under 16 Girls Connacht Cup

Shiven Rovers 2-4 Mervue Utd

Played in terrible conditions in the wind and rain, Mervue's under 16 girls advanced to the Connacht Cup semi-final after a 4-2 extra time win in Newbridge over Shiven Rovers. Mervue went ahead in the opening half when Emily Rodgers latched onto a ball 20 yards out and fired a great effort past the home keeper for 1-0. The home side levelled matters after 25 minutes to send the side's in all square at the break

Ten minutes into the second half and Shiven Rovers took the lead to go 2-1 up. Mervue playing against a strong breeze got back on level terms with 10 minutes remaining as Michaela O'Loughlin finished to the net following a scramble in the home box for 2-2 and force extra time.

In the first period of extra time Mervue went ahead once again as Emear Kelly finished a Natasha Madden cross to the net for 3-2. They then sealed the victory when Emily Rodgers doubled her tally and her sides lead with a brilliant lobbed effort from 25 yards outs. It was a very good all round performance from this young Mervue side who can now look forward to a last four Connacht Cup tie.
