Juniors Advance to Connacht Cup Semi Final   07/04/2013

Mervue Utd A 1-0 Iorrais Aontaithe (Connacht Cup Quarter Final)

The club's Junior A team required extra time to see off the challenge of Mayo League side, Iorrais Aontaithe, in the quarter final of the Connacht Junior Cup at Fahy's Field on Sunday afternoon.

Despite creating the better chances throughout the normal 90 minutes the home side failed to register on the scoreboard and the game proceeded extra time were a late Paul Sinnott strike ensured the home side advanced.

Steve Cunningham, Sinnott, Derek McWalter and Aaron Finnerty all missed good chances to put the home side in front and Sinnott also missed a penalty in extra time before atoning for that with the winning strike when penalties looked on the cards.

Gary O'Connor and Ger McGrath's side will face a trip to Mayo in the semi-final as they will face current holders, Westport Utd, who defeated City United 2-1 in their quarter final also played on Sunday afternoon.

Semi-Final Draw is as follows:

Loughrea or Ballinasloe Town v Corrib Rangers

Westport Utd v Mervue United

Semi Finals of the Connacht Junior Cup will be played on the weekend of 20th/21st April.

The winners of Loughrea/Ballinasloe/Corrib Rangers game will be at
home in the Final which will be on the weekend of 18th/19th May.
