Friday 6th April 2012 (Kick-off 7.45 p.m., Fahy's Field)
Mervue Utd will look to halt a run of five opening game defeats as they host Waterford Utd at Fahy's Field on Good Friday evening. A fifth defeat of the season away to Wexford Youths last weekend has added to a disappointing start to the new season as injuries and suspensions have blighted the current campaign.
Manager Johnny Glynn will be hoping his side can finally put an end to that run and register some badly needed points, but he will not be helped by a long injury list once again and a double suspension to deal with.
Martin Conneely (groin), James Casserly (groin), Tom King (knee), Michael McSweeney (hamstring) and Brian Connolly (ankle) are all definitely out, while there are doubts over Alan Murphy and Gary Kelly. The good news though is that both Conneely and King are both back in training and are about two weeks away from a return to action, while Kevin Crehan has also resigned and will be available in a number of weeks.
Captain Mike Elwood continues to be suspended with an additional two game ban, while fellow centre half, Stephen Walsh, will also sit this one out having been sent off against Wexford Youths last week. On the plus side Noel Varley, Alex Lee, Peter Dravins and goalkeeper Brian O'Donoghue will all return to the squad having missed the Wexford game and Marc Ludden also made his comeback as a sub in that game, so will be pushing for a starting position.
Manager Johnny Glynn on Friday's game "There was not a whole lot of positives to take from last week's performance against Wexford. It was disappointing and though our squad was again stretched to the limit we will have to improve on that if we are to get a result against a Waterford side who no more than ourselves have had a slow start to the campaign and will be looking to improve over the next few week's. We have not managed to beat Waterford in the league and we will be hoping change that statistic this season".
