Mervue United Team News v Longford Town

Saturday 18th August 2012, Flancare Park (Kick-off 7.30 p.m.)

Mervue Utd make the trip to the midlands on Saturday night as they face third placed Longford Town at Flancare Park with kick-off at 7.30 p.m.

After two defeats in successive weeks to Waterford Utd and city rivals SD Galway Johnny Glynn's side will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Saturday night and avenge a very late win by Longford at Fahy's Field when the two sides last met in late June.

That last meeting between the two sides produced the contender for match of the First Division season as the sides played out a nine goal thriller in Mevue at the end of June with Longford claiming an unlikely 5-4 win having been 3-0 and 4-2 down to the home side before two late goals secured the win in injury time.

The previous game also produced plenty of goals with Longford winning the meeting in Flancare Park 4-2 in April, while they also won the opening game of the season at Fahy's Field with the only goal of the game from Gary Shaw on his debut back in March.

Injuries continue to keep Martin Conneely (ankle ligaments), Kenny Farrell (ankle) and midfielder Alan Murphy (ankle) on the sidelines. Gary Kelly is a doubt with a shoulder injury and did not train all week, while Dan Cunningham, Alex Lee and Cian McBrien (work) will also miss the game as they are unavailable but Shane Keogh will return from injury having missed the last four games.

Manager Glynn on Saturday night's game "Games this season against Longford have been eventful to say the least and we are making a habit of meeting the tops teams after they have been beaten the previous week, so we can expect a backlash from Longford. It is also the first game of the last round so we will be looking to start well and put in a good finish to the league campaign".
