Junior B's Bow Out of Connacht Cup   20/10/2014

Mervue Utd B 0-1Kiltimagh/Knock Utd (Connacht Junior Cup)

The club's Junior B team crashed out of the Connacht Junior Cup after going down 1-0 to Mayo side Kiltimagh/Knock Utd in the first round at Fahy's Field on Sunday afternoon.

The home side started well and created a couple of good chances in the opening ten minutes but they failed to take them and were to rue this after 20 minutes as the visitors struck for what was to be the only goal of the game.

Stand in keeper Daragh Lundy had made an excellent earlier save when producing a good stop in a one on one with a Kilmagh/Knock striker, but he could do nothing about the opening goal as midfielder Conal Mooney fired a cracking effort from 30 yards into the far corner.

In an even game both sides created several good chances but couldn't add to that strike as Mervue's best chances fell to Joe Boyle, Emlyn Coyne and John Moran, while Moran, David O'Boyle and sub Damien Kenny all fired efforts wide of the target as the home side pushed hard for an equaliser in the second half.

Mike Shaughnessy's side will now enter the Connacht Shield competition as first round losers and will hope for another home draw in that competition when the draw is made.
