U19's Lose Out to Derry City   03/03/2014

Airtricity U19 - Mervue Utd 1-2 Derry City

The club's under 19's went down 2-1 to visitors Derry City in the Airtricity Playoffs at Fahy's Field on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors proved to be the better side in the opening half and after missing three good opportunities in the opening half hour they finally opened the scoring on 37 minutes.

Derry's Stephen Mills was left unmarked in the box following a cross from the right and he controlled the ball before sliding a cool finish past Peter Healy for 1-0.

That lead was doubled two minutes before the break as Ronan Curtis powerfully headed home Conal Kelly's cross from the right as the visitors led 2-0 at the break.

The home side improved dramatically after the restart and began to look more threatening in attack as they looked to get back into the game.

Top scorer Padraic Cunningham eventually pulled a goal back on 66 minutes when he finished James Healy's ball past Derry keeper Michael Lynch.

But despite a lot of pressure and possession for the home side they couldn't find an equaliser as Moise Assogba, Padraic Cunningham and Michael James went close for Mervue.

Next up in the playoffs is an away game with Limerick FC on Wednesday 12th March in Annacotty.
