Mervue Utd 5-3 Corrib Celtic

Padraig Kilgannon's Junior A team came from two goals down to eventually run out 5-3 winners over Corrib Celtic in the Premier Division game played at Fahy's Field on Sunday morning.

The visitors were 2-0 up in the opening period following goals from Kevin Fox and Mike O'Malley but a freekick from Tommy Walsh reduced the margin back to 2-1 before the break.

The home side were level two minutes after the break when a great move involving Keith McHugh and Robert Connolly set up Stephen Larkin to make it 2-2.

Corrib Celtic fought back though and following some bad defending by the home side Kevin Fox robbed the ball from Vinny O'Connor before slipping the ball past John Egan for 3-2.

Larkin level matters once again when he raced onto a through ball to before beating Cathal Naughton into the corner for 3-3.

Mervue then continually put pressure on the orrib Celtic reargaurd until finally three minutes from time it paid off. A long throw from Robert Connolly was flicked on by Tommy Walsh and Keith McHugh finished past Naughton for 4-3.

Mervue added another goal to ensure the three points when Coley Kelly was taken down in the box and McHugh dispatched the ball past Naughton once again for his second of the game.
