Mervue Utd U19 0-0 Salthill Devon U19 (Salthill won 5-4 on pens AET)

The club's Under 19 team lost out on penalties to city rivals Salthill Devon in the second round of the Enda McGuill Cup at Fahy's Field on Tuesday night.

Following a scoreless game and extra time the game was decided on penalties with the home side missing two penalties in the shootout.

In a game of few chances the home side could have gone ahead after just three minutes when Ciaran Fahy fired an effort just wide following good work from Billy Lane.

Salthill's Jason Lyons had a good effort well saved by Conor O'Malley on 35 minutes as the first half saw little in the way of goalmouth action.

Lyons had another effort cleared off the line on 57 minutes as Padraic Cunningham was on hand to rescue his side with an excellent clearance.

In injury time Billy Lane fired over following a good corner delivery from the home side as the game finished scoreless and proceeded to extra time.

The visitors created the only real chances in that extra period as Mervue keeper O'Malley pulled off a wonderful point blank save to deny Eamon O'Donnell on 114 minutes, while the Salthill centre forward headed just wide from a good position straight after.

Into the dreaded shootout and Andy Higgins, Ciaran Fahy, Jamie Fallon and Andrew Daniel all converted but with two missed as well, Salthill's Alex Byrne converted the vital spot kick to send his side into the third round.
