FAI Under 17 Cup - Herbertstown Utd 2-2 Mervue Utd (Mervue won 4-2 on pens)
Mervue Utd Under 17's advanced to the quarter finals of the FAI Cup as they eventually won 4-2 on penalties against Limerick side Herbertstown this afternoon.
The game had finished 2-2 after extra time in Limerick as goals from Ryan Manning and Richard Fahy had Mervue 2-1 in front in normal time. The home team hit back though and level matters to send the game into extra time were the score remained 2-2 as it went down to the dreaded penalty shootout to decide the winners
With goalkeeper Gary Farrell having gone off injured in normal time it was under 15 keeper Peter Healy who was to be the Mervue hero as he saved three penalties in the shootout. Ryan Manning, John Rhatigan, Thomas Gleeson and Dylan Thornton all converted penalties as Justin Neary and Colin Nolan's side advanced to the last eight.
