FAI Junior Cup Last Sixteen

Ferrybank FC 2-4 Mervue Utd

The club's Junior A team advanced to the quarter finals of the FAI Junior Cup after an extra time win over Waterford League side, Ferrybank FC, in Waterford on Sunday afternoon.

Gareth Gorman and Noel McDonnell's side got off to a flying start as Barry Moran headed home Jason Molloy's corner inside the opening five minutes. The home side leveled matters on 27 minutes as Mervue suffered a double blow as goalscorer Barry Moran had to be replaced by Simon Walsh due to injury as the sides went in all square at the break.

The home side went in front midway through the second period following the awarding of a penalty but Enda Curran fired home a cracking free-kick with just five minutes remaining to send the game into extra time at 2-2.

With no goals in the opening half of extra time and penalties looking likely with four minutes remaining in the second period of extra time the visitors struck twice. Enda Curran fired home to put Mervue in front as he doubled his tally for the afternoon before sub Tommy Molloy fired home a cracking fourth goal to ensure a place in the quarter final draw.

Mervue Utd: Colm Power, Gary Bailey, Tommy Walsh, Keith McHugh (Paul Healy 78), Eric Browne; Jason Molloy (Joe Hynes 59), Emmett Shaw (Tommy Molloy 66), Stephen Larkin, Peter Walsh (Ciaran Foley 84); Barry Moran (Simon Walsh 27), Enda Curran.
