The first team got back to winning ways on Sunday morning by beating newly crowned Division Two champions Mervue United B on a 3-1 scoreline. Both teams were evenly matched until the half hour when Ian Prendergast played a long ball down the wing to Adrian Gilligan who beat his man well and sent over a pinpoint cross for striker Mike Madden to finish at the far post.
Early in the second half United went two up. Madden put pressure on a short back pass to the keeper and the loose ball broke to Gilligan to volley home. Mervue were rewarded for some consistent pressure when a corner ball broke to the edge of the box and was rifled home for 2-1. With ten minutes left, United sealed the win when a long ball from Trevor Ruane was misjudged by the Mervue keeper and left Madden with a tap in for his second goal of the match.
This was the first of four matches in a nine day spell which includes the final league matches in our promotion push and the quarter final of the Lillis Cup against Medtronic.
